Does this actually have anything to do with the Triwizard Tournament? I would have thought that she would have been a contestant because of her declaration of "the wizarding world could do with a female champion". I'm also surprised she's not dating Snape, given the fact she's overly obsessed with him. The whole linked to her twin thing comes across as a plot device used to give her a lot of angst over being ill and also some kind of contrived conflict rather than something which would realistically have happened should Harry have had a twin.

I think I'm the same. They're almost always better than the sibling, but serve no real purpose. However, this makes me appreciate a well written sibling OC even more, what with how rare they are.
