I think AUs should focus on only one change to the canon material. Someone once told me it is possible to write an AU with more than one change, yet I've never seen one where this is true. This isn't to say it isn't possible, but changing just one thing in the canon material is hard enough as it is, so changing more than one just makes things even harder for the writer.
