The writer claims, "Anyway, hasn't anyone realized how damn similar Harry and Yuri are? Of course, there are some glaring differences, but they are remarkably similar if you look." Either the characters are glaringly different or they are remarkably similar. They can't be both. I also don't like reincarnation fics, as the vast majority fail due to the fact the writers don't get what I just put down and only look at the basic similarities. This added nothing to either series either.

I think though...

How callous of the writers not to understand how devastating HIV was during the given time frame, but how insensitive to make it all about the sport they're fangirling over. Insensitive as well is the fact they're playing it up as a gay man's illness when it's not. They may understand what a person going through HIV now is going through, but a person of that time period? Everybody was scared of the illness.

Hi, I was the original writer for "Dance of the Red Death." I had nothing to do with the content of someone else's story. However, you can see all of my annotations and clearly marked resources on my AO3's story, which is very clear on my previous experience working and living in a family with HIV+ members. Every statement made was fully sourced and documented, specifically to avoid accusations like this ( ... )

Unfortunately, I can't control whether or not people read the 60+ citations that I have for my story or add them into their stories, and I certainly didn't consent to words I wrote to be copied by someone else without having the links and facts that I had. I was meticulous in citing every article, as well as the many stories that including commentary in regards to HIV in the skating community. But mostly my story was written and set in 2016 and dealt with current fears that were caused directly by old fears and misconceptions (of which there are a boatload. And lots of laws and regulations that were put into place over 30 years ago that still affect people now, like the travel bans that th US only overturned in 2010 ( ... )

I'm not sure I can add anything to what you've said. I'm actually as horrified as you are, particularly after you did so much research into the subject, but I'm sure the other minions would agree. What you've said needed to be said. While this is the first time such a story's been featured on Pottersues, we've featured stories which romanticized subject matter such as rape, cancer and special needs. A few of the writers and/or readers of these stories found their stories featured here and they don't think what they're doing is a big deal, yet comments like yours puts that train of thought into perspective.
