Fourteenth Annual Pottersues Contest
WHAT? Bad fan fiction. Or at least bad premises.
WHO? All of the lesbian minions, and anybody else who wants to participate!
WHERE? The Pit of Voles.
WHEN? September 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.
WHY? Because, as loyal minions we should show our abilities off, and we frequent this journal because we both love, and love to hate Mary-Sues. Links to our previous contest announcements can be found in the Suechives.
HOW? I assign a theme, and you write really bad fan fiction. Normally the story doesn't have to be bad, but we all know that if a fic is written poorly it will still get lots of reviews. You can make it a serious attempt, with proper punctuation, grammar, and canon. You can make it nearly illegible, cliched, and OOC. It can be a crossover or AU, it doesn't matter. However, for this contest I am looking for actual attempts at writing a Mary Sue. Otherwise, as long as the rules are followed it will be fine. :)
I do want to mention that there are a lot more "sporkers" on fanfiction.net now, so if you make it an obvious troll then you won't get the reviews you need to win.
The rules are as follows:
1) Fics must be posted on the Pit of Voles, sometime between September 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016. You have a maximum of four months in which to collect reviews, but also now follows and favorites. Fics posted before September 1 will be disqualified. (Which isn't possible, as I'm posting this one September 1 this on the start date this year.) I'm not picky about time zones, so as long as the 'published on' date on The Pit says it was August 1 where you are, that's fine.
2) You don't have to finish the fic. Heck, you don't have to post more than a single chapter if you don't want to. You are though more likely to win if you continue the piece.
3) You don't have to post them under your own username. I'm not that cruel. You can co-author a story with someone, however, it must be posted under one account.
4) The winning fic will be the one with the most signed, positive reviews per chapter. So a one-chapter fic with 12 reviews will beat a two-chapter one with 13. Since this does encourage people to only post one chapter, and the site has added favorites and follows I'm changing up this particular rule. We'll see how it works this year.
I'll be assigning points to reviews, follows and favorites on a scale of one to ten where the person with the most reviews, follows or favorites gets the ten points and the others receive points based on how their number of reviews, follows or favorites compares to the highest number. I'll then add up all of the points. This should give stories which a high number of follows and favorites to have an equal chance at winning.
Example: If the highest number of reviews is four, and the number of reviews for your story is two you will get five points for review section.
5) You cannot anywhere on your profile page or in the fic itself note that this is for a contest or a troll. People who like it have to like it because they like that sort of thing. I can't stop you, but please don't provide a link in your livejournal. If you get a bunch of your friends on your friends list to read and review it's cheating, and that's not fair.
6) Email me the URL of your story or send it via PM on livejournal. If I don't know where it is, I can't include it in the judging. My email is pottersues@gmail.com OR pottersues@hotmail.com.
This theme this year is Ethnic Sue. The ethnicity you pick for the Sue is pretty much up to you, as is how you introduce them to the world of Harry Potter. However, American, French, Italian, Australian and of course British are out unless you pick a minority from those country to work with. Those are after all the most picked ethnicities we see here on Pottersues outside of Japanese Sues, but unlike Japanese Sues the ways they're typically gotten to Hogwarts is the same. We either get the American or Australian student getting a random letter, a transfer from the American school, or a transfer from one of the two other schools from the book.
