Harry: But Dumbledore, I don't understand. Dumbledore: There there, Harry. Allow me to make a long pithy speech about moral responsibility and end it praising the unique wonder that is yourself so that you will realise your place in the universe. Harry: Wow, I really AM teh spechul! Snape (in the background): And they wonder why I hate this kid . . . .
[insert character] let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
It's not dialog, but I still think it's over used. It seems to have a purple, bodice-ripping quality writers can't resist. Come to think of it, I believe I used it in my Chock Full o'Cliche first fic. :D
"The Golden Trio". Snape used the line--once. So why is this used all the time in fanfic? (And half the time it's not used sarcastically, as our Potions Master intended).
I'll second the ferrert thing. It's WAY too overused. Especially after the fifth book, when Harry just seems more apathetic towards Draco than anything, but somehow in fanfics he always sets aside 5 minutes to go look for Malfoy and call him a ferret.

Like Ollivander saying 'Interesting'... very interesting' or whatever it was he said.
And things the Sorting Hat said to Harry when he was first sorted.
Calling Draco 'Ferret' even though I think that was only done once, and close after the event of him actually being turned into a ferret.
