You are making me hungry, even though I just ate. You're also making me jealous of campus food, which I didn't know was possible. I could never had the stir-fry on campus...or not on campus, for that matter...because of my food allergies. Peanuts, soy, any beans/legumes. Yeah, me and Asian food don't get along :(
lol maybe if I lived by myself and/or actually did any cooking. Though, my now-ex and I discovered that olive oil and vegetable oil do not, in fact, produce the same taste.
Yes, I think I know that "any kind of oil" does not include motor oil :p
Yeah all oils do taste different. (Thus why most people don't really fry at home a lot...restaurants generally fry in like, animal fat/grease, which most people don't have on hand, because that's kind of gross to have sitting around). They also all smell different when you burn them c:
...Don't ask how I know the last one. My little sister has to help me fry things.
LOL...I have an ongoing argument with Grey, a Mass. native, because he once said you "can't get good seafood" in New Orleans. I can't wait to tell him my LJ friend complained about there being no good seafood in MA.
There is good seafood here! It's just not anywhere near my mouth! I don't live quite on the coast so it's a bit harder to find :P Maine is the real place for fresh seafood though...it's only a few hours' drive from here.
As a born southerner though, Grey is patently wrong. Y'all have crawfish, right?! Have you fed him crawfish? You absolutely cannot get them up here, it's a tragedy.
Also, IIRC New Orleans is one of the places you can get gator meat? I haven't tried it yet myself but I hear it's somewhere between chicken and seafood if you try to classify it, food-wise.
He HATES crawfish and would probably never even try gator (which I've had several times and don't care for myself). He's not a very adventurous eater. I have a theory that God is punishing me for being such a food snob in the past by making me fall in love with a man who likes his steak well done, hates anything spicy, and whose favorite condiment is ranch dressing. ;-P
oh man, i didn't know you were in MA! i just moved here and i'm digging all the seafood so far, haha. though it's just been flaky white fish so far, but i am excited for other things to come!
Yeah! I'm in the Boston area kind of. I remember you mentioning you just moved up here.
Usually you can find the best and most varied seafood in towns really close to the water; they have fresh seafood restaurants, especially in the summer, although not quite as many as you find in Maine.
Yes I'm in Gloucester! Which is, I've been told, the inspiration for Innsmouth at least in a large degree? So excite for that as well as fish. I'm hoping I'll like the seafood cross-section a bit more here than I did in NOLA, I'm not actually a fan of shrimp or crawfish >.>
What I /really/ want, what is my seafood dream, is to go to japan and eat at an unagi restaurant. I could die happy. Though really it's eel /sauce/ that's the best, eel without eel-sauce wouldn't be as amazing.
Oooo I see. Well, there's a ton of fresh fish and also shellfish...do you like mussels and clams? I know my regular grocery store stocks fresh ones every day, including some freshwater sorts. And if you live close enough to the water, in many places you can buy clamming rights to a section of the beach and dig up your own fresh clams. Nommmmm

Er, any edible oil. Not like. Motor oil. Yeah, I think you could have figured that out on your own.
