Karla might not have been gung ho about getting out and doing something about the capekillers like other people seemed to be, but that didn't mean that she was going to let them intimidate her into doing whatever she felt like doing.

She was still interested in getting her name out there and getting the Avengers going. Being a hero, after all, was pretty much a license to get away with anything. She wasn't going to risk everything by getting in pointless fights with those guys when, assuming everything worked out and they could maybe get some government sponsorship, they might even be working alongside the capekillers ( ... )

"Hey!" Peter said, smiling behind his mask as the woman flew down next to him. He was very glad that his mask hid his eyes, because it was very hard to look Ms. Marvel in the eyes with a costume like that, no matter how much of a gentleman he was trying to be.

"Ms. Marvel, how's it going? Spot any crimes in progress? Uhhh, do the Avengers do that? Are you out Avengering right now?"

Karla really hated the Ms. Marvel costume, in all honesty. It was awkward, it rode up in uncomfortable places, and it was just a bit tasteless, which, by her standards meant that it had to be bad. She really wished that she could have gone about as Moonstone, but when she was already distrusted enough, and the "heroes" were only a step above being treated like enemies, she sure as hell wasn't about to go out as anything less than a model hero.

She laughed a little. "Nothing really, unless you count the brats that tried to break my window... again. The Avengers handle more large-scale problems, but if we can assemble here, that might not be the case."

She shrugged, then smiled to Spider-Man. "But Avengers or not, we still have to handle the street level baddies, right?"

"People seriously throw stuff at your windows?" he asked. Maybe they threw stuff at his too, and he just didn't notice. Peter tried not to hang out at home all that often.

"And yeah, that's how the Ultimates back home work. Usually something really huge happens and then they show up. Or they use people like me as bait and wait until we're about to handle everything and swoop in at the last minute."

hey there Peter witchsupreme July 1 2010, 05:33:03 UTC
The world was still in one piece. Nico still hadn't gotten over that, even though she'd been been there for over a week. This universe was holey, the inherent magic of it soft in places like a bruised apple. She'd gotten over the automatic magical 'hangover' of having her title ripped from her, of the aridity of this world versus her own.

She'd taken to wandering, though. There were adults here. Old men with wise faces limed with wrinkles, white-haired grannies feeding pigeons in Central Park. Nico had watched a pair of eighty-something year old gentlemen playing chess for over an hour, delighted by the fat blue veins in the back of their hands and their squinting old eyes.

She'd almost forgotten what age looked like. Nico watched, soaked in, and rested.

No, she wouldn't treat this as a vacation, as Santo had bluntly suggested. But maybe she did deserve to recharge her batteries, if only a little.

Peter had been staring up at the unique landscape that was Manhattan, enjoying how different it looked from street view. Peter wasn't sure if he liked it better from above or below. He was so lost in the debate though that he didn't even noticed the other girl until he bumped into her, wishing his Spider-Sense would work for accidents too, and not just when someone was trying to hurt him.

"Oh god, I'm so sorry," he said. "I totally wasn't watching where I was going. Are you okay?"

It was a good thing that he wasn't a very big guy, because Nico was pretty small herself---and a little too thin, to boot. She didn't topple, but if she'd been wearing the ridiculous heels and boots she'd favored in her teens she would have suffered a twisted ankle at the least. Thankfully, age and need had changed her out to worn-out Converse sneakers and fairly nondescript clothes. This guy would have had no way of knowing that he'd rolled over a Sorcerer Supreme.

"It's okay. I'm fine, seriously," Nico said, waving him off. "I didn't notice you coming, either. Head in the clouds, huh?"

She looked up at the Bins, lips thinning as she pressed them together. "Do you live here, too?"

"Well, at least a few stories up," Peter said. He couldn't help but grin at just how close to the truth she had been. He was glad that she was okay though, she looked a bit- not very solid. Not that he was very bulky either.

He was glad she had said "too" about living at the Bins, he knew that there were a lot of protesters here sometimes.

"Yeah, I do," he said with a nod and offering his hand. "Peter Parker, room 203."

Peter felt Johnny even before his friend, or his friends counterpart or whatever he was, spoke. It was like sitting in front of a fireplace. Peter was reminded of how cold Johnny had been in another body and how uncomfortable that must have been.

"Hey, Torch," he said, glancing up at the flaming man. They were probably a bit more conspicuous now. "I've always wanted to ask you... how do you feel about your name meaning Human Flashlight in England?"

"You know, just doing the hero thing, looking for muggers, flame throwing Goblins, the usual," Peter said. He was secretly glad that this world didn't really seem to have any supervillains around. That made things a lot easier. He'd miss busting Herman every other week, sure, but it was safer this way.
