A giant reptile in a hat rampaged through the camp before it was put down.

Honestly, it was disappointing, given how much panic was being spread around. The thing didn't even breathe fire.

These refugees from another world who have set up the carnival here. They claim they're here to defend us against some terrible threat but their methods are about as trustworthy as a used komodo dragon seller.

You missed the part where she razed the last location of camp in order to prevent her enemy from coming back. At best she is an inattentive overlord, at worst she is an incompetent and deranged one.

The barrier's instability means we may not survive the crossing. And even if we managed there's no guarantee the world we return to is the right one. I need to return to the Fire Nation, anything less is failure.
