The BBC didn't get the increased license fee they wanted. It's all a bit dire for the BBC money-wise at the moment so they probably can't afford to commit to 13 episodes of Torchwood.

There's no commentaries on the DVD box sets for the same reason. It's all little cost-saving exercises wherever they can make them.

It's a shame really. Surely it's worth investing money into shows like Torchwood with large followings and good merchandising opportunities?
But then again, I know nothing.

heh. I read the bit about the license fee increase on torch_wood actually ;) But Dad is always coming home complaining about lack of funding for his show.

You'd also think that with Doctor Who going into a limited run next year, they'd use Torchwood to fill the gaps and not lose any of the merchandising opportunities. Instead Torchwood is ALSO going into a limited run while Lily Allen gets another series and Jonathan Ross gets £18million for three years. The BBC have certainly been more business-savvy in the past, that's for sure.
