My boyfriend (an atheist) and I (a struggling theist) were invited to attend a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for a lovely Jewish client of his Friday night. It was held at their Temple, bookending the Shabbat service. It was lovely on innumerable levels-- seeing them celebrate so many years together, as we are just beginning our lives together; feeling the immense weight of the years of the Jewish faith resting gently but heavily upon us, while being tolerantly and lovingly included with no questions asked; the sheer majestic beauty of the temple.
It was awe-inspiring and I'm still mentally sorting through it all.
