Yeah Tinted Windows! *screams and shouts*

I find it hilarious that this piece of news got me out of my LJ slump (I have several entries I've been too lazy and busy to post, urrggh!), but I just had to share this, because I went through a whole gamut of emotions as I learned about it, from "WTF?!" to "OMGOMGOMG" to "Shit, I'm scared of what they would sound like, I don't wanna hear it" to "Ok I'll listen to 'em 'cause I'm too curious not to" to "Hey that actually ain't so bad" to "Dammit, this song is going to be stuck in my head if I keep listening to it too much".

Taylor Hanson, the middle girl/brother of the pop group Hanson (sorry Jonas Brothers, these guys have been there, done that) and James frickin' IHA of The Smashing Pumpkins and A Perfect Circle fame are now part of a band called Tinted Windows. Their other bandmates aren't exactly pushovers either: their drummer is Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick and Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne is the bassist.

I know, I know, it makes you cringe doesn't it? Hey, I cringed too; I love James Iha, he's one of my favorite lead guitarists ever, and although I had an unexplainable fascination for Hanson back in the '90s, I cannot imagine him hooking up and forming a band with any of those brothers. I'm only vaguely familiar with Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne's music, so I can't comment much on them. I used to know only one Cheap Trick song - "The Flame", but I just learned that they're the ones who originally did "I Want You To Want Me", a song I only heard a cover of from the 10 Things I Hate About You OST. I also know only one FOW song, "Stacy's Mom" (it even had supermodel Rachel Hunter as the hot mom in their video). But those last two songs are both such catchy yet cool pop tunes, and after hearing the new Tinted Windows single, I immediately saw Bun E. and Adam's influences. Think of it this way: if you put all your ideas of where each member is coming from and mix 'em up, that's exactly how Tinted Windows sounds. Unabashedly pop rock, sure (and admittedly nothing very new), but not all pop is bad. ;)

I say, get over the WTF moment, give 'em a listen and have fun, they're actually not so bad. :)
