You know what this place could use? A nightclub.

Don't get me wrong, I like Good Spirits a lot, but you can't exactly go there for dinner and dancing. The pizzeria seems like it has room for musicians, but pizza's not exactly ritzy. Sometimes you just want to go somewhere nice and hear a good band, you know? Putting a Tex Beneke record on just ( Read more... )

Might be more musicians here than you think. Problem being, they all don't come from the same school, so agreeing on, and getting together, a specific type of set might be difficult. Same deal with the clientel.

That aside, ever think of starting a place yourself? Not like there's lease worries and licenses to worry about.

Musicians, sure, but with my luck, they'll all be accordionists. [That's what's hip, right? Accordions?] We'd need an awful lot of brass to pull something halfway decent off.

[You know, Derek, that's not a bad idea. Not ideal, but if it didn't interfere too much with her writing...] I wouldn't mind playing manager, but we don't exactly have an abundance of empty buildings, as far as I can tell. Maybe if someone was willing to donate the space a night or two a week, though--hm.

Well, I know there's at least two guitarists.

[He tries.]

...Maybe you can grab one of the empty houses. Not like you'd need something that seats thousands.

Well, we'd have a rhythm section, anyway. [Guitars front and center? That'd never work.]

I wonder how hard it'd be to remodel one of the houses... I've never seen the interiors, but if they're anything like the apartments, you'd have to knock out a wall or two if you wanted a dance floor and tables.

We actually have our fair share of musicians here. I can name two guitarists - if you count myself - two jazz pianists, if they're still around, Frederic, and a boy who's quite handy with an ocarina.

...depends what you want in a nightclub, I suppose.

What'd be ideal is if it turned out that this is where Glenn Miller disappeared to. But you know, if we could find a singer, what there is wouldn't be a bad start. Dunno how much you could do with an ocarina--[she's not certain she knows what one is, truthfully]--but guitar and piano are nice. A little bare bones, but not bad at all.

Three singers.

That I know of.

One is a young girl, granted, but she's one of the best I've ever heard.

You might have a future as a talent agent, Rupert. [She, meanwhile, doesn't know much more about music than what she likes, so she's not about to bar anyone from the stage for age.] I figure anyone who wanted to perform would be welcome.

[He pings at the sound of his name and at the thought of gathering musicians.]

I would be honored to play and help with this nightclub idea of yours, Miss Easton.

Mrs. Eaton. But just 'Kay' is fine. [But she can't be too annoyed when Chopin's offering to help.] It'd be great to have you--a musician's gotta have somewhere to perform, right?

Oh I do apologize, Mrs. Eaton. I did not mean to refer to you with the wrong title. [He feels a little embarrassed now, he didn't mean to make such a simple mistake.] Well I have been performing at the Seventh Heaven from time to time and local concerts, but that's about it.

S'all right. And if this all works out, you could probably have yourself an ongoing gig.

[Mildmay has been sitting by the window-- he found a fancy chair that lets you lean back if you pull a lever the other day-- staring out at the setting sun and marveling at how it's still cool inside. He listened to that post with a bit of a pin-scratch frown on his face, thinking.]

You wanna have a ball?

[Kay looks over, a bit of a smile on her face--he's been all over that recliner for days now, but with a bum leg, she can hardly blame him--and shrugs.]

Balls're a little fancier than I've got in mind. More like...I don't know, do you have dinner and dancing where you're from?

Yeah, we got soirees, but I seriously don't go looking for 'em.

Really? They're not too bad, if you have someone to go with.

[Sanji waits to see the ideas bounce around before speaking up]

... There's a second floor in the Seventh Heaven building that's not really being used for anything besides storage.

Yeah? [This is all coming together a hell of a lot more easily than she was expecting.] Well, I wouldn't want to take up all the space up there, but that'd be ideal. I mean, there's a real kitchen there, right?

[voice] oda_hates_me July 1 2011, 03:26:14 UTC
Indeed there is~! I could move up some tables to the second floor, for those who'd like entertainment with their meals. [Sanji certainly likes this idea. Sounds classy]

Well--that sounds great to me. [If he's going to agree, no stops, she's not going to say no.] I'm not exactly your gal Friday for heavy lifting, but if you want some help getting things set up, I'd be happy to do my part.
