It'd mean a full week of eating leftover turkey. There's very little food in this world good enough to eat every day for a week, and turkey's not on the list.

....Sandwiches?

Turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, turkey ala king - no matter what you do with it, it's still a week of turkey.

What're these stories about, then?

The ones I've been working on, or the ones Julius writes? The drunken scientist stories are pretty self-explanatory.

Suppose so. I mean the ones that you ain't finished yet.

Those ones. Well.

[Pause for consideration. Kay's not used to talking about stories with people she doesn't know very well.]

One's about a hunter who's cursed for shooting a deer he shouldn't have. The other is about a woman defending her planet from invaders, mostly.

Well, what's it about? Sometimes it helps to talk it out.

I'm Kay Eaton, by the way. It's always nice to meet another writer.

You've heard there's no currency here, haven't you?

I have.

I see. Well, time here passes differently. When you go back, your husband won't even know you left.

So I've read...but how can I be sure anyone here comes from quite the same world as I do? It's probably unlikely that time where I'm from runs at the same speed as time here, but on the very off chance he's spent the past week and a half wondering where I've gone--well, at least I haven't left him with a half-finished manuscript.

My SOS-Brigade has a photo-copy machine that you could print stuff out on, assuming you find a means to type it out in the first place.

...Or hand-write, I guess.

Oh, how I long for an Underwood. But a ditto machine would work in a pinch.

Haven't heard of the SOS-Brigade before. What is it?

I must've missed the bit about you. So are you the--[it takes her a moment to be sure she's got all the syllables lined up right]--the Haruhi Suzumiya in question?
