Low Cost Menus

I've seen a few posts about that recently and thought I'd share my links.

These are some menus from a lady in ... TN, I think? Her whole website is great, but I found these really interesting. I don't eat a lot of the foods on here but by making reasonable substitutions, I'm able to get my food bill under $30/week for three people.

I love that site.

BTW, I think she's actually in West Virginia or Virginia. I think I remember reading that on her blog.

Sounds good thanks! She does like my mom did when I was a kid. We had biscuits or cornbread, beans and potatoes in some form almost daily for years.

That's such a great idea, except I guess it only works in some parts of the country. I mean $0.69 for a dozen eggs or $0.62/3 pks of yeast? Even on sale, I don't think I could get anything close to that. It would probably cost me double. *pout* Oh well, that's what I get for living in one of the most expensive regions in the country!

Although your overall total might be higher, this menu SHOULD stll be pretty affordable. :) Afterall, even lousy part time jobs tend to pay a LITTLE better in more expensive regions, and jobs are easier to come by. Assistance programs like food stamps also take into account your cost of living, etc.

Alas even though those lousy part time jobs can still pay decently, they're hard to find. And it sucks to have an $8/hr job if your rent on a 1 bedroom is over $1000/mo. I don't qualify for food stamps because I have a newer (5 year old) car my parents got me. But I bookmarked the site anyway, because I think I could adapt some of the recipes!

legit, livin near NYC is wonderful but hella exspensive so i completely understand. the jobs here are suppose to pay more, but i really dont see too much of a difference since they increased the NATIONAL iminum wage. punks :p

Awesome. I've been looking for ways to use powdered milk.
