CCCS is by far the best. They receive funding because they benefit both sides - you get your debt paid off, and the credit card companies are more likely to get some money back. They also NEED the funding because they're not screwing you over like most debt reduction companies will do. Ruling them out for that reason is absolutely ridiculous.

When we did our DMP, we tried CCCS and they said they wouldn't help us because we were too bad off (I was planning on getting a second job but couldn't for the time being but we could survive until then).

We ended up going with Genus www.genus.org. Loved them dearly!

many thanks =) will check them out! Thought I would go the CCCS route initially, but based upon my conversation with one of their "compassionate and caring" counselors, I think not. Very rude, very condescending, and she failed to realize that people wind up over their heads through no fault of their own(In my case, illness and job loss).
So yeah, thank you for the link =)

CCCS worked wonderfully for my in-laws, but the office we went to told us to estimate high on our budget then told us that we didn't make enough money to get out of debt.

I think it all depends on the counselor you get. And unfortunately, that's probably the same thing you'll run into no matter where you go.
