Joys of being frugal

Mar 11, 2007 12:39

-> Having someone compliment me on my jeans/sweater/etc and knowing that it only cost $5 (or less, yay tag sales).

-> The satisfaction of eating homemade pizza (so yummy)

-> Knowing that reducing consumption and reusing items is earth friendly.

Here are just a few -- feel free to add more!

* Getting more time to myself at lunch because I don't have to drive to a fast food place and get food. And along with that, having the people I work with compliment me a couple times a week on how good my lunch smells.

* Getting a half an hour of me-time while walking to work that is also saving me money as well as helping me lose weight.

* Feeling better about myself knowing that I don't have to keep up with my friends to be happy. That I would be content with half of what I have now.

The lunch at work thing is very satisfying to me. It seems like 75% of the people I work with are on diets and they have their yucky Lean Cuisines every day for lunch to "make up" for the 3 donuts they had for breakfast. Today I had a french bread pesto pizza that I made at home - I got envious comments, and as a bonus, it didn't have that nauseating frozen food smell.

I think buying food frugally can be much healthy - the people I work with are always complimenting me on my figure and my clear skin, which I believe are due to my non-typical-American diet. Boy I sound smug, but I guess I sort of am!

it didn't have that nauseating frozen food smell.

Amen to that! My boss nukes some frozen something or other nearly every day which stinks up our entire office. Thank goodness I take my lunch hour before she does otherwise I wouldn't be able to eat from the stench.

I fix my own lunch everyday which gives me a lunch that tastes good, is good for me and costs pennies rather than dollars a day. And I'm losing weight doing it!

Tell me about it!

I just got my first cavity ever (:-/), and I called my mom to whine about how much it will cost me to fill ($83, ugh). I think I said something like "man, now I won't get to save so much this month."

She wisely pointed out that I save each month specifically in case things like this or even worse happen. high five for saving! I would hate to have to put a filling a credit card and accrue interest on that crap. It's bad enough to pay for it in the first place.

definitely high five for saving - the government wants a lot of my money, and I don't know where it would come from had I not been saving.

$83 is not bad for a filling.

I'll never have to worry about the emptiness that floods in when I'm not working for the man.

I'll never have to learn how to pilot a yacht.

Having the cash to snap up a big-ticket item the moment I find a really good price for it.

Being able to go to any concert I want because I use public transport and buy my clothes on sale.

Doing my bit to reduce my city's pollution level (not to mention horrendous traffic) by not owning a car.

Having extra money to put in my retirement account.
