Another Reason Why Cambridge Is Like Hogwarts

They have owls here.

Owls that hoot a lot. In the day time. In the night time. While I'm in the shower. While I'm trying to read. While I'm walking to class. While I'm brushing my teeth.

Don't worry though, smlyctwntstopee is going to shoot them for me. We're friends again, at least for the five minute period in which the birds die.So I have decided that, ( Read more... )

What is her accurate aiming distance?
Add another mile to that, just in case, and that's where I'll be when she has a gun (or so) in hand with intent to do violence.

Any house elf sightings yet?

she spit a knife at me.

no house elves, but we have real 'help' that makes our beds and serves us meals and folds cailtin's bras.

the other day the bedmaker threw out caitlin's plastic drinking cup and she called him a 'punk ass bitch' to me. it was especially funny (and also sad) because he was within hearing distance and we didn't realize it.

so i wrote this long comment about caitlin spitting knives at me and calling one of the help (who are remarkably house-elf like because they make our beds and throw out all our trash, even things we don't feel are yet trash-- like plastic cups and knives) a "punk ass bitch," but livejournal erased it or something.

so.

here at the illustrious Presidential Classroom, I occasionally run into a fellow Michigander amongst the young Americans who pay ungodly sums to come here and get carted around by me.

such was the case last wednesday, when a young man (i think his name was John Spangler?) overheard me discussing the use of my hand as a map and proudly declared himself to be from Bloomfield and a student at Lasher HS.... apparently he knows your sister. weird, no?

anhyhow, your summer sounds fantastic, and i look forward to hearing more about it this fall.

[ALSO- apologies for the lack of music posts. to make up for it, i highly suggest you take advatage of your time in England by picking up the new discs from The Pipettes and/or Lily Allen... you won't be sorry]

john spangler is t-r-o-u-b-l-e. i kind of knew him. he likes to rape little children. like my sister's best friends.

sounds like you are having fun, which is good.

the lack of music posts are okay, for now (i certainly expect more later), because i have no way to listen to music. i'll make sure to check out those singers when i get back because music (and everything else) is super expensive here. like twenty-two dollars for a cd.

okay. rape is a harsh word. but he certainly made inappropriate advances on them. and then made them do things they were uncomfortable with.

glad to hear you are well after traveling around the world. it's going to take a concerted effort to get you the picture you asked for, but i'll find to it within the next week when i'm trying to put off the papers i'm supposed to be writing.

i thought owls slept during the day. do they hoot when they snore or something? perhaps they just need breathe-right strips.

sage wisdom of the day: violence is never the answer, unless something really ticks you off.

this is weird because livejournal knows this is a french computer and the only english on the site are the words you write.

my only beef about québec is the fact they changed around the keyboard and it`s throwing me off with all the extra keys. no one will shoot extra keys off though.

i'll send you caitlin. she will shoot keys off for you.

are you having a spectacular time?! i hope you are. also, i've heard real french keyboards, like the ones in France are just as confusing. hopefully, it won't hinder you too much. are you planning on bringing your own computer next year?

as for the owls. they really tick me off.

did you have a super fantastic birthday? i thought of you and hoped you were out getting drunk in canada or something. okay, maybe not drunk, but at least tipsy enough to make out with some kind, buff, canadian boy who says 'eh' a lot.

grr keyboard! i`m most definately bringing my computer to france.

unfortunitely the french canadians don`t say eh. but whenever any of the students use 'eh' i laugh really hard while they continuously ask `what?`. fun times.

i went white water rafting for my birthday (beyond cool and will talk about later in detail). but i didn`t get drunk because it was raining and the bus stop`s a bit of a walk.

sounds like an awesome birthday. i am totally jealous of the white water rafting bit. still, we should celebrate again when we both return. speaking of which, when do you return?

You could be a wizard in JKR's world if you had a snowy owl, like Hedwig. They are diurnal and nearly silent. But then again, she got that wrong in the book so maybe Snowy Owls are noisy in that world.

Hope England is still amazing, despite the owls.

england is still amazing. despite the owls. and i am going to oxford, i think, to see the harry potter set next weekend. so that should be fantastic.

you know an awful lot about owls. maybe you should change your major to zoology. or possibly you should be a literature critic and let the rest of us know when outrageously popular authors make up stuff. about owls.

as for keeping an owl as a pet, i was under the impression that birds stink more than kitty cats. so, i'm torn. while an owl would be brilliant because it's also utilitarian, cats are more independent, usually quieter, and generally easier to take care of. but what do i know, i'm not jkr.
