Divergent by Veronica Roth. I'd given it to my mother because of her fondness for the Hunger Games, she tore through it and then loaned it to me. I will likely be sent to fangirl prison for this but I thought tonight's episode of Sherlock was overindulgent.

Through nefarious means I did see the new episode of Sherlock last night. Short version: I liked it! It was fun which I think is one of the main reasons I like the show, that it is always fun and surprising and the writing goes in unexpected ways. Was it entirely satisfying? So The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug would be fine if Peter Jackson remembered how to edit a film. Not just the length of the movie but some basic things like not destroying the tension of a scene by cutting to another or putting together an engaging fight sequence. I was nearly crying in the subway over Patrick Ness' A Monster Calls. It's a middle grade story about a 13 year old boy dealing with the illness of his mother who has a visit from a monster - but not the one he was expecting. Finished The Stress of Her Regard. The writing was gorgeous and I loved the take on vampires but the plot was repetitive and I had serious problems with the characters.
