I haven't done a meme in a long time, but I couldn't resist this one, since SF&F is near and dear to my heart. Copied from lunabee34

NPR's recent list of Top 100 SF and Fantasy Books: Bold if you've read, underline if you've read part but not all, and italicize if you intend to read.

I really liked the Chanur series and the Company wars series, too.

I suspect it was a mistake for them to combine science fiction and fantasy, because what they've wound up with, is a science fiction list with a few token fantasies. And because they've leaned heavily on classic science fiction, it's a list with built in sexism and racism. When you read the list of 237, that bias against fantasy (which is also largely a bias against women) is even clearer.

Yay! Glad I can inspire meme-age.

I agree with the commenter who says that this list is heavily skewed toward sci-fi; they probably should have done two lists. I'd like to see more female authors recognized. (Where's Octavia Butler, for instance? Or CS Friedman?)

I haven't read anything on your list! *bookmarks*

Another Cherryh fan!! I adore her - we're kind of rare! I think Downbelow Station is my most favorite of her books ever. It was the first one i ever read, and i've re-read it probably twenty times or more.

They totally needed Fafhrd and the Mouser in that list.

Too many 'old school' sci fi authors for my taste, but still - a lot of awesome books.
