The random lyrics meme

Oct 07, 2008 23:33

Set your music player on random.

List out the first line of each song. Skip instrumental songs (duh) and songs whose first line is in fact the title. Friends guess the songs.

I've included the entire first sentence even if it's more than a bar, and the whole first bar if the first line is short.

The spec is for the first 10 songs, but I didn't stop that soon. )

A few of these are likely to be known only to one or two of you (and not the same one or two in each case). At least one I will be shocked if anyone guesses correctly.

Interesting!
I was 21 years when I wrote this song. Billy Bragg, "A New England"
This is not the song I was listening to. But even the next line is the same. You have to to the third sentence to find the difference:
I was 21 years when I wrote this song. I'm 22 now but I won't be for long. Time hurries on.

The rest are correct; The Oonka chuckas are by Blue Swede.

Yeah I'm sitting on this bar stool, talking like a damn fool, got the twelve o'clock news blues
-- Styx, "too much time on my hands"

Talking away...I don't know what to say
-- a-ha, "take on me"

Riding on the range; I've got my hat: on. I've got my boots: dusty.
-- Boys Don't Cry, "I wanna be a cowboy"

Oh! Oops. Wait - why did Daev not get that one?

Last Gentlemen - When the Fire Breaks the Chill.

I had to go listen to half their stuff to remember which title, but I had the band instantly.

I have no idea why daev didn't get it. BLuR didn't guess at all, and I was figuring him to get that one, too.
