I had been getting really dried out by my new CPAP since I got it. Which is odd because it has a built-in humidifier. I tried a few things to mitigate it; switched back to my old mask (I really like the new mask, by the way), taped my mouth shut (to avoid "mouth breathing," where the air goes in my nose and out my mouth in a continuous flow, ( Read more... )

Maybe that's why it sounded weird- louder, and kind of raspy. But with the new mask maybe it won't be so loud?

A couple of things probably contributed to that:

The old mask has a single vent-hole. The new pressure is twice what the old was, which may be enhancing the whistle-like nature of that.

The tape failed, and I was blowing out the side of my mouth, Popeye-like.

There was a lot of water in the hose and in the mask; that causes a sort of burbling effect.

Having never had need to use a CPAP machine before it strikes me that moisture/condensation in the mask and hosing would be a bad thing. Especially since you're using this while asleep.
