Welcome to Hell!
Setting the Scene
Heaven, that place of peace and calm, is somewhere far beyond the sky, resting in sunlight and music, far beyond the City's Barrier. But its divine armies have descended to take on the rebellious monsters of Hell!
Hell! Yes, that place of torment,
ringed nine times around, with each sinner set in his proper place of agony, either according to the sin s/he most often committed during the Seven Deadly Sins week, or to the sin you think best represents him/her. The Underground of the City has descended into the Pit, the famous Nine Circles of Hell. And all those sinners in the City will be dragged into Hell and to their eternal torment!
Limbo, that place that is neither Heaven nor Hell, will be the City at large, a place that bears witness to the battles between the Angels and the Demons, but which is also removed from the torments of Hell. It may not be peaceful, but those in Limbo are not in torment. (If you choose to have your character opt out of this event, he or she can stay in the city and stay safe.)
But now, the Angels, the Army of Heaven, have passed through the Barrier of the City. The Demons of Hell have grown restless, hungry for greater power. The Angels of Heaven have decided that the only course of action is to take back the territory of Hell, destroy the Armies of Evil, rescue those souls that can be rescued, and cast all demons and lost souls into eternal darkness--!
Angels and Demons
Here's where you, the players come in! You can choose to make your character an angel, a demon, a human in torment, a human rescuer, or a soul in limbo.
"Good" characters can become angels, and "bad" characters can become demons, but the words "good" and "bad" are, of course, subjective. No one is wholly "good" or "bad, so really, you can make your character in to whichever you'd like, by utilizing/emphasizing a trait of theirs. (For example, if you play a character who is "good", but with a dark past as an assassin, they can become an assassin demon! If you have a "bad" character who has a soft spot for children, they could become an angel who protects innocents.)
Here are your options!
✣Angels/agents of good (Translate your character's powers or skills to the divine, but all angels get a flaming sword)
☈Demons/hands of evil (translate your character's powers or skills to the wicked, but all demons get a fiery whip)
☄Victims in hell (Choose what circle best suits your character's particular sin and prepare to suffer for your sins!!)
☂Rescuers of victims (Neither angels nor demons, but those brave voyagers seeking to save those in torment--!)
☸Souls in Limbo (Characters outside the battle between Heaven and Hell, removed from the bliss of Heaven, but also safe from the torments of Hell--sitting in No-Man's-Land)
And pay attention, because there will be some moderator-played NPCs (
imonlyhelping,
wakeforged, among others) floating around on both sides, so watch for them and what they get up to! Feel free to interact with them too, of course.
Timeline of Events
☈Sunday, October 24th 12:01am:
Are those wings? Are those horns? The divisions between the armies of Heaven and the armies of Hell begin to form. (Characters begin to take on the characteristics of their particular side, or they begin to focus more on their particular sins)
☈Monday, October 25th 12:01am:
Sinners, repent! Or fear the torments of Hell to which you will be dragged! (Watch out! Demons and monsters will be dragging characters into Hell. Torment begins!)
☈Tuesday, October 26th 12:01am:
There'll be Hell to pay, the Devil will gets his due, and this Hell isn't freezing over. (Part of the Underground opens, descending into the Pit, revealing Hell, and the battle begins in earnest. Only part of the Underground will turn into Hell, though. The rest will remain its usual passages and tunnels and will not be affected by this curse.)
From the 26th to the 30th, the battle will rage, Hell will burn, all bets are off, all plots are open, all ideas are go (well, almost all...).
Characters who don't get out by the 30th can say that they were rescued by NPCs or that the City simply spit them out at the end of this ordeal. This event also carries a Death Exemption.
So what does all of this mean for you?
Well, it means that it's time to plot! Organize battalions of Demons or legions of Angels, find your Supreme General of the Third Circle, declare the Commander of the Legion of the North Star. Find a demon to kidnap and torture your character (some of those demons love what they do, and some are just following orders). Rescuers, head down to Hell while the Angels and Demons are distracted by the battle--it means going to Hell or getting met halfway at the Gates of Hell. Maybe an Angel assists with the rescue of your best friend from the Circle of Avarice only to hand him over to a demon in the Circle of Lust. Maybe your character agrees to work for a demon to save the love of his life, but he has to throw his brother to the monsters along the way. The possibilities are endless.
Feel free to use this post for plotting, planning, scheming, thoughts on what might go on for your characters, battle plans... Run with this, roll with this, make this into something awesome.
If you're sure about an idea, though, please put it down plainly, so that others can reply to you and you all can plan for this in advance! Especially if you're wanting to play a major role, (such as a leader of a hell or heaven battalion), because that way you assemble people to serve under you, or other players can find their character a leader, etc. (Also, if need be, one can assume NPC involvement as underlings and such!)
We can make a Heaven out of Hell.
