I am currently re-reading the Harry Potter series.  However, I am not reading it in English, but rather in German.  This is for my German 301 class, but I am finding that I quite enjoy it.  There's something satisfying in being able to get through an entire chapter of a book in a language I don't speak very well, and comprehending most of it.  It's ( Read more... )

That brings back a weird memory. A friend and I got lost in Vienna, and stopped in at a bookstore to try to find a travel guide. We emerged over half an hour later, and all we had to show for it was a copy of "Harry Potter und der Feuerkelch." I don't really speak German, but since that is my favorite book in the series and I already had versions with the British and American cover art, I couldn't resist. My nerd impulses got the better of me.

I lied and told my friend it was a souvenir for a friend. Unfortunately, I left it on a train somewhere in Prague. I had forgotten about that until now...huh.

It sucks that you lost it.

My sister likes reading children's books and other books she knows really well in French.

I've read each book, at most, twice. But it makes for good small talk. Plus that was the summer the last one came out, so I got kind of "caught up" in the hype.

Also: Studying Torts sucks.

I'm pretty stoked that I comprehend most of it. There's only really been twice that I felt lost while stumbling through the kind of sentence that has like, five verbs on the end and a few twenty-letter words.

Granted, I'd bet it'd be different if I didn't already have half of it memorized.
