Bank Of America CEO 'Incensed' That So Many People Keep Pointing Out How Awful His Bank Is

I'm sure you remember where you were when you heard that Bank Of America announced that after receiving taxpayer bailouts, it was going to institute a $5 monthly fee for the privilege of using your debit card. "Well, that's exactly why I saved Bank Of ( Read more... )

The Durbin Amendment to the last Frank/Dodd bill is what forced BOA (and other banks will be doing this too) to have to charge for debit cards and checking accounts. Eventually all banks will be doing it. They have no choice.

On the other hand, NOW Arco has dropped their 45 cent Debit card fee, and can take credit cards again for gas.

Which means they could take them from other banks, as well, which means that if people move their money, one of these days BofA may just be shit out of luck.

I am definitely looking forward to the next national election. Question: Do I have hip-waders high enough to keep the blood off me afterward?

Wells Fargo has a $3 fee. AND they made my free checking into a "Personal Checking" account subject to a $7 fee if the balance is below $1500, unless you get at least $500 in direct deposits a month.

I opened a BECU account and transferred all my money, and closed my Wells Fargo accounts.

Then Wells Fargo sent me a new ATM card.

US Bank, where I'm currently banking, has no such fees for anyone getting $500 or more per month in direction deposits, which I do. So far, so good.

I opened a BECU account and transferred all my money, and closed my Wells Fargo accounts.

If US Bank starts dicking with me, off to BECU I'll go. I'm staying with US Bank for now because frankly, it's just too much hassle to change over.

Then Wells Fargo sent me a new ATM card.

ROFLMAO!!

BECU doesn't have any such requirements. And what I really liked, aside from the fast and thorough answers from their support group, is that they paid me more interest on the first $1000 PU put in to establish my accounts than Wells Fargo has paid me in years. (It's something like 6.17% on the first $500, and about a quarter percent on amounts over that.)

Wells Fargo already pissed me off by NOT lowering my credit card rate, even though I have fantastic credit, which over the years rose from 9% to 14.1%. Bad interest rates, then this fee business was the last straw.

I believe. Big banks are getting so arrogant and error-prone thst they're driving more and more of their customers away, including those that go to credit unions to get away from the bullshit. So far, US Bank has been good to me. If that changes, I go to BECU without looking back once.

Thank god for capitalism, I was a BOA customer , after there hit me with an overdraft charge by withdrawing from my account before adding my direct deposit I left for Wells Fargo. Soon I will leave Wells Fargo for a smaller bank.

Try a good credit union. Many of them have no fees, take direct deposit, all the good stuff.

Bank of America have always been douchebags. It's part of the corporate culture there, I'm convinced.

As for the effects of the Durbin Act, whatever we're saving in stores by Walmart having won the battle over interchange fees is getting eaten by the banks. Which was entirely predictable and was in fact predicted by the bankers. I'm insulated from Suntrust's user fees until next April, at which point I'll probably change over to one of the local credit unions unless Suntrust changes its mind. We'll see, I guess.

I agree with you: BofA are right bastards, and have been since at least 1960. Maybe longer. Other banks tend to be less bastardly, and some are actually decent. But the next time I move my money, it's going to BECU (Boeing Employees Credit Union).
