Help -- technical problem!

When I'm online and I go to open a file on my hard drive using the File/Open menu at the top left of the AOL tool bar, the files and folders I see are not arranged alphabetically or by any other recognizable order -- and it's always the same way every time. If I right-click on any blank space there, I can evoke "arrange icons by" and then "name" ( Read more... )

If you find out, tell me. Things I set in Windows explorer don't help. (Where even the "Set every folder like this" command fails.) And it would be nice to be able to add some favorite folders to that bar on the left.

Windows is the ultimate buggy software -- as witness Vista and, so I'm hearing, Windows 7. But it enables me to avoid dealing with Apple. At least that.

There's a simpler way, but I've forgotten what it was. And it doesn't happen in Windows Explorer, just in AOL and Nero. At this point, it's not worth doing that sort of restore.
