Glory

Tonight the sky above the Cascades, seen from my eastern French windows, was glorious. Though the dominant theme was blue-grey, blue-violet, and blue-black -- heavy clouds humped up over the mountains -- there were numerous patches of brilliant cerise among those clouds, thanks to the light of the setting Sun striking them. The cerise patches ( Read more... )

On the other hand, I live in a tiny little studio apartment, one of about 300 in this complex. It has a teensy-weensy bathroom off the main room, but the kitchen is built into the main room, and it's very, very crowded. One door opens onto the hallway that runs down this arm of the building, and faces west; the other has the french glass door opening onto the lanai, and faces east. At least I don't get that bake-oven afternoon heat in Summer, and the view to the east is beautiful.

I do not envy studio apartment living, nor mega-complex living.

I do envy french glass doors/windows and lanais. For the record and all. ;) Especially when they're eastern-facing. My living room window faces west and summers are brutal. (The bedroom window looks directly onto the street, so I keep the blinds shut, and that's it for windows in my place).

I wouldn't trade my eastern windows for anything -- well, almost anything. ;-) I understand the envy. As frustrated as I get living in this teeny apartment, the blessing of those eastern windows makes all the difference.

My house has a sun room built off of the kitchen, and I spend about 99% of my waking hours there. This evening I was getting Rivka ready for bed, when suddenly the whole room flooded with the most intense violet purple light. We both just stopped and stared. It was almost palpable, the air seemed to have a substance and texture that wasn't there before, and then just as suddenly it faded away. I love nights like that.

Yes. As if the presence of the Almighty had filled the area. When you can lose yourself entirely in the glory and elation of that presence, and wish fervently for a repeat.
