This unique cloud formation was spotted off Port Townsend on May 25 and I'm stumped as to what caused it.

The evening sky to the east above the Cascades, filled with blue-grey and grey-violet clouds interspersed with large patches of open sky, is patched and misted with cerise. Tonight the sky above the Cascades, seen from my eastern French windows, was glorious. Though the dominant theme was blue-grey, blue-violet, and blue-black -- heavy clouds humped up over the mountains -- there were numerous patches of brilliant cerise among those clouds, thanks to the light of the setting Sun striking them.
