First and foremost, yes, you can post at irregular intervals... so usually when I read it, it feels too late to comment (then again, I post at even ress regular intervals than you lately and thus read others' posts seldomly too)
Secondly, it's always nice to write down stuff that happened for posterity, and an added bonus people can comment ;)
Do you comment a lot yourself on LJ though? That usually makes peeps remember "oh yeah, that guy! wonder what he is up to"

Yeah, it's something I was thinking about while writing. I'm rather bad at commenting on other peoples stuff because it takes me quite some time to think of the best way to express myself, or sometimes to even just come up with something to say. So I'm sorta throwing rocks in a glass house here, but it just felt there was anybody here anymore, and I was wondering whether or not it's worth it to keep posting if there's nobody here anyway. (And... Yes, I would probably still post, even if I'm just talking to myself. :P) And then I get the same problem as what you just said. It feels kinda silly to comment on something that was posted weeks ago.
But yeah, I don't care if you comment on something that I posted a year ago or anything, it's just nice to know that someone at least reads it.
