493 PROJECT: THE LETTER A

Right after the release of Red and Blue, my preteen self sat down and drew (copied) every single Pokemon from the strategy guide. Since then, I've always wanted to draw every Pokemon again. Wow.. you have quite a different style of drawing them. :3
My favorites are Aron and Altaria. Aron looks so darn cute.. X3
I find it interesting how you drew Absol, i've never seen him drawn in that way, but it happens to be one of my favorite animals and it makes sense too. Looks great! What were your refs/inspirations for Azelf and Articuno?

thank you! aron would make a great, if stubborn, pet.

absol has always seemed like a mountain goat to me, so I went with my instincts on that one!

I didn't use any references for azelf, actually, other than my arceus design. the sprite and dragon trios probably will all follow that sort of alien logic, in which I try to make them look as strange as possible without losing their original features too much.

for articuno, I used various pictures of snow at night, as well as a few screeching bird pictures found via google. its posture I believe came from a youtube video of a barn owl getting all defensive. in general, I didn't want to draw articuno as gorgeous and graceful as is the norm, so I went with dark and bloody in the end, haha.

Ah i see :D Yeah, the sprite trio looks cool in that strange and alien-like form! Drawing Articuno owl-like was interesting too~

Absol definitely seems more dog-like to me, but i love that you made it like a mountain goat! Living in the mountains and all, it would make sense that its structure would be more similar to them.

I'm taking all sorts of liberties with the "gods." articuno kind of has owl-like wings, but I had quetzals and arctic terns more in mind, though I didn't directly reference them.

I probably would have thought differently about absol if there was any info on it hunting or the like. but alas!

that's hard to say! I'm looking forward to inorganic monsters, like the claydol and metagross lines, just to see what I can do with them, as well as some of the others that will push my creativity. my favorite pokemon are exploud, wartortle, and rampardos, among others, but those are a little far off right now. unfortunately!
