confess your love as well as your folly

Despite what he's sure some people believe, Eduardo isn't oblivious. The truth or dare game made clear enough that something was going on, making people say things they didn't want to; he was just also distracted at the time, and unaffected by the turn of events, resulting in it being easy not to spend any time dwelling on it. For that reason, when ( Read more... )

In his own way, Mark's been vaguely aware that the population surrounding him has been more worked up than usual, this evening. Honestly, he doesn't think much of it. On an island without cable television, without the internet, without even anonymous services put together to help folks find someone for a random one-night stand or other type of date, it sometimes feels like Tabula Rasans will use just about any excuse to celebrate or get worked up in a tizzy. Why should tonight be any different? More interesting to Mark at the moment than the behaviors or desires of the island population is his code, which he's still been steadily working on every day to debug. No matter what, working on it here won't be perfect. So much of what Mark needs to do involves testing for performance, and that's not something easily accomplished with a laptop, as top-of-the-line as his is. He needs servers, he needs remote access to the stronger machines kept in facebook labs, he needs at least ten times as many gigs of RAM to really know whether or not ( ... )

While, in the past few months, Eduardo has learned to adjust his expectations when it comes to Mark Zuckerberg, there are some things that have always held true, things that Eduardo never anticipated would change. Among them is the fact that Mark has never been all that openly affectionate. That's never been a problem, either. Although there may have been times that Eduardo has wished he could get something more, some form of validation just to prove that there was any degree of reciprocation, he wasn't bothered by any lack thereof. It's just how they were (and he probably didn't deserve it, anyway). Besides, the fact that Mark kept - keeps - him around at all says enough on its own. He wouldn't have done that with someone he didn't think worthwhile ( ... )

Mark's just about to interject, to say what should already be obvious, that Wardo should hold off on speaking or saying anything at all right now. Really. Because a declaration of love is not something that comes naturally from one Mark Zuckerberg, unless the target of that declaration happens to be his mother (he's been brought up with proper family values and the knowledge that a son loving his mother does not have to be Oedipal in nature and is also nothing that he should be ashamed of, it's unconditional, it's just a fact). Bromance, or whatever one may want to call it, is something that shouldn't be sappy or overdone, lest it become a parody of itself. So clearly, that Mark's just ventured into the area of chick flick lines is an automatic red flag, a cause for concern, but before he can even get a single word out of his mouth, Eduardo's directing those words right back at Mark ( ... )

It's all too much. Eduardo thinks that, then he feels guilty for it, then he continues thinking it anyway, because really, it's too fucking much. Just dealing with the fact that Mark honest to God loves him - and it can't be anything else, an exaggeration or an untruth, because that isn't Mark's style, if only because there's nothing to gain by being duplicitous here, and because it's becoming increasingly clear that it couldn't be - would be a lot in and of itself, enough to leave Eduardo reeling, chest feeling strangely heavy, like there's a weight on it. The rest, though, that only adds to it. He doesn't know what to make of it, and sure as fuck doesn't know how to respond. Of course he knows that it isn't something Mark would do, but in a way, that was all the more reason to have responded; with Mark clearly not in his right mind, he wasn't going to draw attention to that. Besides, with as long as he's thought it, felt it, the opportunity to say as much without sounding like a fucking idiot was too good to pass up. Maybe it'll ( ... )
