Girls' Generation (also known as Soshi or SNSD) is a nine-member girl group formed under SM Entertainment (other label-mates include DBSK, Super Junior, SHINee, f(x)). The group is made up of Kim Taeyeon (김태연), Jung Jessica (정수연), Lee Sunny (써니), Hwang Tiffany (황미영), Kim Hyoyeon (김효연), Kwon Yuri (권유리), Choi Sooyoung (최수영), Im Yoona (임윤아), Seohyun (서주현). They made their official debut in July of 2007 with their first single Into the New World (다시 만난 세계).
The group has released two full albums, three mini-albums, and various singles. Their 2009 hit song Gee holds the record for being the longest running song according to KBS' Music bank, having making a run of 9 consecutive weeks. The group has won various awards, including Artist of the Year (Daesang) awards at the Seoul Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, Melon Music Awards, and the Korean Cultural Entertainment Awards between 2009 and 2010.
Since then, their popularity has grown immensely, especially overseas; they are often referred to Koreas #1 girl group. In China, they are known as 少女時代 (Shaonu Shidai) and in Japan, they are known as 少女時代 (Shojo Jidae). They had made their Japanese debut with the remakes of Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) (소원을 말해봐) and Gee under under Nayutawave Records, a part of Universal Music.
