IU is currently under the company LOEN Entertainment. She has been praised by Gummy, Toy and Jung Jae Hyung on her potential in the music industry. She had made her debut in 2008 with the mini album LOST & FOUND, with the song Missing Child (미아). However, her album wasn't commercially successful. However, her comeback was what put her on the map, and into mainstream kpop. She released her full album Growing Up with the title song Boo. Within 3 weeks of the songs release, Boo went up to the #1 contenders on Inkigayo, along with much success on Music Bank K-Chart, Mnet M!Countdown chart, and on various online music sites.
In 2009, she was recommended by the music director and sang the ending song titled Araro (아라로) for the drama Queen Seon Duk. The director had said that she had a "clear tone and her lyrical sensibility". She has also been featured in Mighty Mouth's album Love Class in the song 희망사항. Later that year, she recorded Love Letter to You with SHINee's Key.
She also recorded the song Nagging (잔소리) with 2AM's Seulong for the hit TV show We Got Married. On June 27, 2010, IU won her first award on SBS Inkigayo for Nagging, and another award on Music Bank K-Chart for the same song. Soon after, IU was chosen to sing the main OST song for the drama Road No.1 titled Because I'm A Woman (여자라서). She's also done other collaborations, including with Yoo Seung Ho (Believe in Love), Sung Shi Kyung (It’s You), and Big Bang's Seungri (I Know).
After working with some of South Korea's most famous musicians and producers, she finally released her third mini album titled REAL, which was released in December of 2010. The title trakc was A Good Day (좋은 날), which was also produced by Lee Min Soo and Kim Lee Na, the creators of the hit Nagging.
Her most known acoustic covers include renditions of SHINee's Juliette, Big Bang's Lies, Super Junior's Sorry, Sorry and Girls' Generation's Gee.
For a little while, IU was a fixed guest on Super Junior's Kiss the Radio, Maybee's Raise the Volume, and MBC's Starry Night and Chin Chin Radio. She was a temporary dj for Chin Chin Radio for 2 weeks due to Taeyeon's departure along with Beast's Dongwoon. She currently is a vj for Game’s Star for You and GomTV’s Starcraft 2 Open Season 2, where she introduces the competing players. IU is also one of twelve original female cast members chosen for the variety show Heroes.
Her first acting gig was in teen drama series Dream High. She has captivated viewers by her portrayal as the 'sushi girl' aka Kim Pil-sook. Her character has a major crush on Jason, played by 2PM's Wooyoung.
IU also sang a self-composed OST called "Hold my Hand" for drama series The Greatest Love.
On January 24, 2012, IU held a live showcase at Tokyo's Bunkamura Orchard Hall. At the time of the showcase, it was noted that she was the youngest Korean singer ever to perform at the Hall. In early April, 2012, it was announced that IU will be holding her first solo tour, "Real Fantasy", starting in June.
