Brokeback Mountain

Saw Brokeback Mountain Wednesday night. Sometimes when you see a movie that's had a lot of media attention, it seems like it's more likely to disappoint because it has been so heavily hyped. Oh, I thought Harry and I were the last people to see this. We tried to catch it on HBO several times, but would always catch it in the middle. And inevitably, would turn to it just as a sex scene was happening.

This really was a masterpiece. Heath and Jake are both great, as are the supporting actors. I swear, every time I'm in the kitchen and both my kids are screaming, I think of Michelle Williams.

Oh, you and Harry are definitely not last! I tried to see it in the theaters a couple of times when it first came out, but the Midtown Art Cinema's lot was always totally packed, and, remarkably, they did not have reserved parking for hags. ;) I wonder if Cowtippers had any themed events? Anyway, I missed it in the theaters, and was going to order it from Netflix on DVD, and then we were moving into the house, and it kind of fell off my radar for a while, but I finally got around to it.

I wish I had seen it in the theater for the gorgeous landscapes (and, of course, for the audience).

Yep, it pulls no punches in terms of how everyone suffers due to the circumstances, which I appreciated. Michelle W. and Anne H. were both very good -- Anne in particular on that final phone call. But Heath ... it's four days later, and I'm still amazed by his performance. Jake was wonderful, too, but I just wanted to give Ennis a woobie, a hug, and some hot cocoa at several points ( ... )
