I loved the hotel we stayed at in Atami. It was next to the beach, and it was so nice at night to sit next to the windows and drink tea and listen to the waves.

He's big. That pedestal is about the height of a person. The original one was made privately (by a monk i think), built of wood, but after it was destroyed in a fire? storm? the government rebuilt it out of copper.

I never quite figured out if Wakamiya Dori is the name of the city, the area, or the street. But there were lots of little tourist-y shops here, and also a street here lined with cherry trees; unfortunately, the trees are very dead-looking this time of year. so I guess it's kind of impossible to just post one picture for every location.

I never quite figured out if Tsurugaoka Hachimangu was a Shinto shrine, or a something else shrine. But people coming to worship are supposed to symbolically rinse their hands here before they enter (well, that's what I understood).
