Jules is very good at "keeping his head down" as they say. I'm terrible at it. I always seem to care too much, become far too idealistic, and accommodate people to a degree that I don't realize I'm being used until I become burned out. Taking down the wash in the evening twilight of the spring is a simple pleasure that I have a feeling is lacking in most people's lives. The warm breeze blows, the clothes blow on the line and you can feel the tranquility of the moment. I just screwed up bad. Jules let me drive his truck to go get more rain barrels for the house. Five minutes (literally) from being home, I rear-ended the guy in front of me. Major Bummer. It seems as though it has been a long time since I've written. Today, I'm taking a personal day. Congress passed the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act of 2009 today, allowing another 202,000 acres in Oregon to be permanently set aside from human destruction.

The last Wilderness to be protected was done so in May of 2008, creating the Big Sky Wilderness in Washington State.

Rain Barrels are set up and harvesting by the gallon. The peas have sprouted, the bay laurel planted, the carrots nicely seeded into rows. The herb garden is as full as it is going to get other than the basil and I'm beginning to feel as though I can settle down with the garden and move on to other things. We have about three more fires to last us the month before we can get up to cut some more. The axes have been sharpened (as the bandage on my thumb can tell you) and the materials for our two additional drying racks will be purchased in about two weeks.
