Embedding Podfic Streams

Aug 23, 2011 12:37

I know some of us have been providing streams of our podfics through services like box.net but I haven't seen many people embedding streams in their podfic posts. I started doing so some time during this year's amplificathon (especially for my shorter podfic). I (and my co-mod podklb) later incorporated it into the posting format for pod_together and I'm happy to see others have started adding streams to their AO3 entries for podfic.

I figured there are probably some out there that are interested in offering embedded streams of podfic but don't know how, so here's how I do it (it's actually pretty easy).

Basically I just use this code:

With LINKTOMP3HERE changed to an actual link to the mp3.

This will produce a stream that looks like this (with a working link so you can play with it):

The only tricky part of the whole thing is the link to the mp3 since most of the sites people use to host their podfic don't support streaming. The Audiofic Archive doesn't, nor do most free hosting services like Mediafire, Sendspace or Megaupload.

I have a personal website which allows streaming so I just upload everything there and use that link.

If anyone would like to offer streaming but doesn't have access to a host that allows streaming, let me know (my email is parakaproductions at gmail dot com or you can leave a comment here) and I'd be happy to host it for you :)

I've also started a discussion over at about why you'd want to have a streaming option.
