So according to their OWN internal code, this would be Very Very Wrong. It's a completely amoral 'verse and that's brutally clear now.
I love it. The people who were killed in front of them were Innocent Bystanders. Someone who might have just been turned the day they kill Kol? FUCK EM! It's total pack mentality.
The way Roerig played their scene at the Gilbert house shocked me--he broke out the trademark Matt Donovan "Woman, Shut Up" eyeroll as soon as he walked in the door and Elena started saying how sorry she was. Which...is entirely consistent with my reading of Matt.
Completely. I thought even his styling in the episode was pretty striking - the varsity jacket, the slicked-back hair, he could have walked right out of a Class of 1952 yearbook. Matt is a throwback, Matt is The Past.
the ep was an interesting study in Elena realizing--and trying to cope with--the loss of many of her old tactics and survival skills, whereas Rebekah has moved onto the next stageYes. And like Rebekah says, she's been through all this before.

2. Klaus isn't the only one who can't control his impulses
are valid except for where they then don't mention that Damon being the big bad and Stefan feeding and then ripping off heads should be considered BAD things.
Then we get 3. We're all victims of our upbringing including the fact that Klaus is a recluse with trust issues And that's why, when Tyler turned the hybrids against him, Klaus went on a murder spree lashed out -- because it was the only way for Klaus to distract himself from the pain of losing his family all over again. ignoring the fact that Klaus kept losing his family mostly because he kept on daggering them when he got annoyed

HAHAHAHA. I am clearly pretty attached to Klaus, but I do not DEFEND his bullshit. And if I did, I hope I would at least try to do better than "he's not worse than Stefan or Damon." That's a bit like saying "hey, he didn't strike out at T-ball, WHOOZA GOOD BOY."
3/4: I actually agree to some small extent about Klaus being the way he is because he was the most vulnerable, crapped-on member of his fucked-up family? I maintain that Klaus is the most sinned-against character in the TVD 'verse. He didn't ask to be BORN THAT WAY, or for his parents to resent him for it; he was way less secure in his siblings' love before they turned because they really didn't understand what things were like for him; he definitely didn't ask for his father to stalk him and try to kill him for a THOUSAND YEARS. But I think that whole psychological component to the character and the whole hybrid metaphor work as well as they do because it's not played as something that excuses him or makes the things he does *less horrible.* He can be interesting without
( ... )
See, I don't think Damon really wants to BE WITH Elena. I think he wants to pine for Elena and think of himself as a big tragic Byronic hero who will never be ~loved and ~understood.
I'm not big on Caroline/Klaus, tbh. He is way more into Stefan.
