THINGS THAT ARE WRONG WITH THE MARCH TO RESTORE SANITY:

Disableism.  It is absolutely unacceptable to use a word loaded with ableist connotations - in this case "sanity" as a measure of anything other than actual mental health issues - and then dub yourself the arbiter of what is civil discourse in America.  "Crazy" is not a synonymous with "someone ( Read more... )

Clearly, I need to get out from under my rock, because I didn't know about this march until you posted. I've been over Jon Stewart sense 2007, and I'm not kind of not surprised by the criticisms of his event you laid out. Comedians aren't known for using inclusive language, and no matter how much he tries, for me JS is not anyone's community organizer, he is just a assholebiting comedian.

I also need to keep on top of my politics too, became last time i checked, saying bush is a war criminal and applauding the actions of Code Pink were pretty much standard for angry leftists and progressives.

Have I told you yet how much I love your meta? I do.

Oh. Basically it was a "March to Restore Sanity" (LOL@ mentally ill people! I will just sit here cuddling my xanax binkie. blah blah both sides just as bad same bullshit as ever. angry leftists not wanted, even though they all went anyway, i guess to get insulted by hizzoner? idk. tons of people went though IDGI. i've been on and off with the show for a while now but seriously half my facebook feed was people planning trips to dc (i live on the east coast) WEV jon stewart. who are these people even. the same people who protested the war and are now being held up as JUST AS BAD as the baggers.

thank you thank you so much for that. ♥ i'm trying to get myself spurred to do some serious meta writing and lay off the bsg reviews for a while ty

I'm finally catching up on all this, and all I can think is really?>/i>. I know the stance of an angry leftest is never gonna be a popular stance, but it seems strange to me to think rallying around moderation in an increasingly apocalyptic polarizing social-political situation will be beneficial.

And such LanguageFail! Too bad the march to restore sanity wasn't about, oh I dunno, accessible and affordable mental health care. Oh wait, talking about mental health issues isn't part of a national discourse. Drat.

Haha who said your bsg reviews weren't serious?
