someone commented on my LJ post about 50 Shades to tell me that being weakly pro-50 shades is silencing abuse victims??

also I just remembered that ANOTHER complaint I keep seeing about 50 shades is that there's no aftercare but there IS, he's always salving her ass after he spanks her and giving her grudging cuddles.

GOD DAMMIT THIS BOOK IS SO DUMB WHY DO I HAVE TO KEEP HAVING SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT IT

I just listened to the episode and you guys are a-may-zing!

Also I loved Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. What do you think of the revised editions they put out where the kids have ipods and stuff? It seems kind of weird to me, but Judy Blume must have approved of it and I have to believe Judy Blume knows what she's doing. (If Judy Blume doesn't know what she's doing, nothing about my life makes sense.

I haven't actually read them myself! I mean, I know they exist and I used to sell them to people but I haven't read the changes. I'm of two minds, I think. I do think that it's easier for kids to relate to the books if they don't seem "old" and that nothing set in "modern" times is really as "timeless" as we want it to be. It would definitely be jarring for me to read back, being used to the older versions, and some of the alien-ness of it might make me less likely to re-read it for comfort purposes, but at the same time, if the choice is between me re-reading an old book and a kid discovering what I loved about it the first time...I'd go with letting the kid discover it, you know?

But I'm also with you--if Judy Blume says it's okay, than I have to trust her XD
