for fic writers, mostly

So, I've been on the internet since the ice age (or 1995-ish) and writing fic for pretty much that entire length of time. I guess I always assumed, the way that people are generally self-centered and assume everyone thinks/acts the way they do, that people produced and posted fic in the same way that I produced and posted fic.

Then I ran secret_mutant and that ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, I've now gotten to the point where I code everything, including IMs and academic writing, no matter if it's getting posted or not.

Oh man, I have the same problem. I'm generally better with GChat because I just use all caps for emphasis instead of italics, but in high school and college I always had to do an HTML sweep before I printed something to be handed in.

I always feel like it looks like I copied it from the internet when I accidentally do that, y'know? Even though I am several years of college past the point where plagiarism is even an option.

I think I coded a handwritten note the other week. That's how bad it's gotten.

I'm so used to doing the html as I write that it makes it really hard to post to Tumblr sometimes, because of the rich text. WHY ARE YOU NOT SMART ENOUGH TO JUST AUTOMATICALLY FIGURE OUT THAT THAT'S A LINK, GODDAMMIT.

That was like, the first thing I did when I started using Tumblr--find out how to switch it from Rich Text to HTML. It still throws me a little, though, because they don't automatically code line breaks like LJ does, so I've had to get used to putting those in manually, but Rich Text drives me CRAZY and my hatred of it has ratcheted up like, fifty times thanks to stupid secret_mutant D:

Oh my god, this, this, all of this. I get so irrationally angry with Tumblr because why doesn't it just understand. I said a href=", dammit! And then I edit my posts like eight times and feel dumber with each subsequent edit. I should maybe use Tumblr more often and then this would possibly cease to be a problem for me. But it would still bother me because HTML DAMMIT.

This has been Tumblr: My thoughts. Brought to you by beer. Cheers!

I WRITE MY FIC IN CAPSLOCK AND THEN CHANGE IT TO SENTENCE CASE WHEN I'M DONE

WELL OBVIOUSLY EVERYONE DOES THAT, I DIDN'T INCLUDE IT BECAUSE I FIGURED THAT'S HOW EVERYONE STARTS.

I've been writing in GoogleDocs for the last 9 months or so, but before that I wrote in Word. But, I coded everything as I write because it was just easier when I CNP into the LJ page.

I mean, technically I handwrite a lot of my fic in bits and pieces, which is a whole different kind of special (aand I code my handwritten stuff), but it when it goes into a word processor, it's GDocs.
