Good morning, internet.

***

Here are some things:

1) queer_fest is accepting prompts! queer_fest is the next generation of lgbtfest. It's a cool challenge because the focus is on queer issues and queer identity (I say "queer" because that's my personal catchall word for gay/bi/ace/trans/anything that's not cisgendered straight) rather than solely sex or relationship stuff ( Read more... )

quotes, i guess i'm in xmen: fc fandom now, cupcakes, pushing daisies

Age is a funny thing.

In his youth, Erik would have died for his cause, for their cause, the cause of all mutantkind. Erik would have gladly given his life in battle, would have considered it noble, even. He was not Erik, after all--he was Magneto. He was the figurehead of all mutants. He carried their burdens and he broadcast their message.

He understands the value of time, now. He's old and his joints creak. He has already given the cause more years of his life than he has left to live. When he looks forward, it seems like such a hassle, all of it. Even if every human bowed before their kind tomorrow, he doesn't think it would bring him the happiness he feels at the prospect of taking time for himself, catching up on his reading, learning to cook new things. There are others who will gladly take up the helm, who will more effectively step into his place.

Let someone else be Magneto for a time. He's going to be Erik again.

He thinks he'd like to get a cat.

I like Sweet's cupcakes! They are overpriced, though.

...are you going to Ikea to write? That's a new location. *G*

I'm really picky about cake and the two I've had from there are just too dry. (But then, you've eaten MY FAVORITE CUPCAKES IN THE WORLD and have probaby heard my rant before XD)

I am not going to Ikea to write (:P), but that would be cool!

I know you've seen positivelyb and I talking about the cupcake ACM in LA on twitter, but, ooh a Crumbs!

There's something about $3.25 for a cupcake that doesn't seem odd to me, though. I pay $3.50 or so for ones at this grocery/prepared food place. Or the Sprinkles where they might actually be $5.00 or so.

I can't fathom it. Most of the bakeries in the NY/NJ area had, you know, reasonable human prices of about $1.50 a cupcake. I can't think of many over $2 at most. Crumbs is about $3.50, but they're also twice the size of a regular cupcake, so it doesn't bother me. My only fear as they continue to expand, though, is that they'll start to scrimp on quality. I mean, I really hope that's not true and I haven't had any cupcakes from outside the NY area, so I don't know if it's been true so far but... yes XD

Ugh, Sprinkles. Don't even get me started on their lawsuit filing lunacy. Every time I hear about a new one all I can think of is when TY Inc tried to sue that mom and pop stationary shop that was named after their kid.

Comment for the fic: kitty! [flails]

Cupcake comment: here in SF, $3 each seems pretty standard. Wish it weren't so. My sister paid when we were in NYC and at Sprinkles, but I had no idea about the huge gap in price. *le sigh*

I didn't know that lawsuit stuff about Sprinkles, interesting. Now I'll feel better about hating Candace whatsherface on Cupcake Wars

So... I kind of dress like Charlotte Charles *most* days. Not quite as fabulous, because it's hard to find that many bright-colored vintage dresses, but I certainly try. Today, for instance, I'm wearing a full-skirted early '60s cotton dress printed in a large green and tan plaid, with a petticoat and brown tights. Yesterday I wore a purple shirtdress with bright teal tights. Possibly I should start having a fashion blog again, and get better at taking outfit photos?
