So I was sitting at the table in the break room, trying to plot and plan my future Steampunk outfit when an idea hit me. Since Steampunk is all about brass and crackpot inventors often pop up... and the costume I am toying with is sort of a wind-up doll... I was thinking how amazing it'd be to have mechanical ears and a tail. Not covered in fur,

Mechanical ears probably wouldn't be too bad, except for the twitching. That's pretty hardcore there. If you can get by on having no twitching, try this

Ooh... clock parts. I wouldn't have thought to use clock parts let alone to look at hobby stores. (I've looked on ebay at clock parts for making accessories out of and the useful bits always get snapped up quick.)

As for the metal paint/covering... are they like a leafing material? I *think* I know what you're talking about. And I think the sheet stuff you're talking about, I've heard mention of cosplayers using for like sword blades and the such. I can't remember whether the girl I talked to recommended it or if she had a heck of a time getting it on smooth, so I might just stick to the paint (or at least do some research on it first).

The sheets are like leafing but on a bigger scale. It's been a while since I worked at Dick Blick Art Materials so I can't remember all of the different stuff. I was thinking about getting the paint and painting the door knobs silver in one of our rooms where they are brass and don't match! They also have some kind of wax, or at least they did, which helped create a smooth surface. I've never used it though.
