Matt was glad that the whole sex-change ordeal was over with--at the very least, it meant Mello was back to being himself. If it hadn't been for that, he probably wouldn't have cared about it at all. A grumpy Mello was bad, but a grumpy female Mello who yelled at Matt for pointing out that, yes, Mel did have breasts and needed to cover them... Well, it hadn't been a fun two days ( ... )

If he saw anyone that had stated their desire to hurt him, it would just take a couple of seconds to shift into spirit form and become invisible, keeping anyone from finding him unless they were able to see the dead. Watari wasn't paranoid about people hurting him, but he was a little worried. Even shinigami could die if injured faster than their undead bodies could regenerate the damage ( ... )

"Er, sorry..." Matt apologized awkwardly when Watari jumped. He hadn't realized how focused Watari had been.

He nodded when Watari told him the programming language. It was one of the new ones up here, but it wasn't that complicated. At least, not in his opinion. Matt had learned most of the computer systems here within the first few weeks. "What sort of simulations?" he asked. "Er, if it isn't classified. Different types of data might be in different books."

None of which really answered why a shinigami would be interested in science... He could ask that later. At least Watari seemed to be the most open about the existence of shinigami.

"If I get home, I'm going to reprogram the supercomputer and rebuild most of the parts with the things I've learned from here, but I need to find out the most efficient way to do that first. Thus the many simulations and stacks of data I'm putting together." Truth be told, that was most of the work Watari did in his lab. The other inventions were on the back burner when compared to something that could make life (such as it was) easier for everyone in Meifu.

He didn't mind explaining what he was if Matt wanted to ask, since he had his own curiosity about the shinigami vaguely mentioned in the redhead's conversations. Watari lived after death because he'd died with strong regrets.

"Good idea," Matt noted. He'd considered trying to reverse-engineer some of the computers here just in case, but as time went on he was losing the hope that he would actually get back. "I think this stuff would help," he said, pointing Watari toward a shelf that wasn't too far from where he had been looking.

"What did you say that computer was for again?" He remembered, of course, but he wanted to make sure the story was the same. From what he knew shinigami caused deaths, they didn't just record them.
