The time for games was up. Muraki could think of nothing else to do to make Hisoka dance at the end of the chains still linking them together. He'd admitted the game and now came action. With the boy being amazingly, stupidly, not using Tsuzuki to his full potential as the stronger partner, Muraki would have no trouble grabbing him to lure Tsuzuki ( ... )

From nowhere, a hand caught him by the shoulder and he knew instantly and cursed himself for getting so lost in his thoughts. His skin was stinging, a terrible yet familiar feeling, and it was hard to breathe. It was always so hard to breathe when Muraki touched him as if he were being suffocated.

Hisoka managed to turn slightly, and his attempt at a glare was clearly an affectation.

A soft breath escaped him, not quite strong enough to be a gasp, and carried with it a quiet exclamation that didn't carry beyond them, "You--!"

But they were in public! Even Muraki shouldn't be so bold as to come after him in a place like this where anyone could come across them, much less injured as he was. This had to be another part of that stupid game, a taunt, and he grit his teeth as he moved to jerk away from that contact.

On the surface, there was absolutely nothing inappropriate about touching Hisoka on the shoulder in public. Only the emotions Hisoka could feel - excited anticipation and Muraki's constant malice - betrayed that this was not a casual meeting. He flashed a cold, predatory smile when the boy's head turned towards him.

"Me. Who else would it be, Hisoka-kun? The games are all over now and there's something I'd like you to see. She's what I got for letting someone pick through my mind and make you hurt as a result of what came to the surface," he leaned down to whisper in Hisoka's ear, breath warm despite how cold his touch always felt.

Taking the doll who'd died to see the doll mocking life. It made Muraki happy to picture.

Hisoka's lips parted as the man spoke, those words carrying with them that cruel intent that cut him to the quick. His head was spinning, but something about that admission galvanized him. For everything, he now knew that had been as much a part of Muraki's plan as everything else. It didn't feel nearly as real, not that anything did right then.

Any of the casual appearance this confrontation might have held shattered as Hisoka finally forced some distance between them, fury coming to the forefront. He stumbled a few steps, the movement faltering and unsure as he cradled his head in his hands. But still, when he looked up through his bangs at his tormenter, there was murder in his eyes.

"Stay away from me," he snapped in a ragged voice, trying to marshal his thoughts into some semblance of order.

He let Hisoka step away from his for now, slipped his hand into his pocket, and grabbed the wire. Next time, his touch wouldn't be as nice even if only having one arm at full strength did put him at a disadvantage. Muraki hadn't even bothered with his sling today, since he knew what he wanted to do and had set things up already.

"You're not even the slightest bit curious as to what, or who, could make a man like me feel sadness and regret? If you don't come willingly, I'll have to resort to measures more painful for you and more fun for me."

Hopefully the threat alone would work, given how well Hisoka knew what he was capable of.
