Awww! I like the way you explored the dynamics between the brothers and their father, it has the same tight internal consistency that the show does. And Dean's POV is so big-brotherly.

Woot! I always hope that I've got the big brother vibe going, but am never quite sure. Possibly due to being the little sister issues or what, I don't know. *g*

same tight internal consistency

Yaye! That's one thing I was really kinda trying for here. Thank you so much for your comments!

Really good exploration of Dean's POV. You've said so many things that make sense here, about the learning and about Dad trying to let Sam have a life, and how Sam "gets a little too inside his own head."

Right now there can be *so* many intpretations of that back story - this is just the one that made sense to me. But I started twigging on how John must've had to learn this trade before passing it on to Sam and Dean. Just that as an idea is something I really quite like.

This was great!

He would've been grateful for the choice.

Gah, I could hear this. Excellent perpective on Dean here. You've captured the essence of that ache in such few words, but you did it well.

along the way he even finds a favorite bar with good bear and spectacular pizza.

Heh. I think you meant beer in there, but heh. So Dean.

it's actually because Sam's constructing a fabulously good sex fantasy in his head. Knowing that, Dean would worry less.

::laughs:: And again, it sounds just like Dean. You've got him down expertly.

And I love the ending. This is a fabulous little look inside Dean's head. Very nice.

What? Dean's not a grizzly mountain man that enjoys a good slab of bear when he comes home at night? News to me! *g*

Man, I always make the most interesting flubs while editing. Hee.

For the sake of saying something different, I think you really made it come through just how inadvertently selfish Sam's decision to leave was. And, to add to that, this was a great Dean POV piece, as has been already said. I mean, ouch, man. *pets him*

I think there's a lot of selfishness from all of them. Really, Dad raises kids while hunting ghoulies? Possibly not providing the basis for a stable adolesence.

There's a lot of underlying tension that's poking out episode by episode. It's great to watch and great material to play with later. :)

Why hadn't he been granted the same chance as Sam?

He couldn't even say for sure that he would have taken it, but still --

He would've been grateful for the choice.

Just perfect.
