*blink* No, that's never happened to me. I exploded a microwave once, but that's because I was trying to turn sherbert into crack rocks while apocalyptically drunk.

*hugs* for you, there.

I've never known it happen with a shower but I have with other types of glass. Sometimes if there is a difference in temperature on the 2 sides on a regular basis it can start to make the glass less stable until finally part of it cracks and when it gets to that point it just shatters completely, its designed to do that to help minimise injury if anyone is nearby. It can happen lots with windows especially with the cold weather we've been having.

Hope this helps thought and you're not too shocked *hugs* Oh and this is another of the weird and wacky things I came across when looking through thousands of building surveys!

I guess, but shouldn't shower-glass be protected against that sort of thing? I mean, it's going to get lots of temperature changes seeing as people are showering and all. It's the only reason I can think of for it happening, but there was no sudden temperature change, so what exactly set it off I've no idea.

Its probably more unusual for a shower glass to crack but not completely impossible. Chances are the changes in temperature have been affecting it for years and its become fragile and then suddenly one day it reached the end of its tether and just shattered. Its really freaky. It happened to our landlords car window once, one moment it was fine the next it shattered into millions of tiny pieces...

That would make sense... If the shower wasn't only about two weeks old.

*headdesk* Damn thing.

Hmmm.... one time when I was living in a dorm myself and my roommates came back from a trip to the supermarket to find that the shower had exploded in pubes. Seriously. There was a giant fluffy pile waiting on the floor in our bathroom shower, with not a suspect in sight.

But for you, I'm thinking that there might have been a tiny crack that had gone unnoticed, and as Tigger says, a difference in temperature could have done the rest. Was the shower door very old?

Ick!

No, the shower was brand new, literally, we've only had it in since just before christmas, and since everyone went home before it was ready for us to use it prettymuch hasn't been in use for more than a week... To my knowledge it's been used at most fifteen times total, unless my flatmates have been having masses of showers while I'm out...

But your bathroom does get very cold... if there had been a crack, then water + coldness = frozen water which is bigger than non frozen water so they tell me. If there was ice expanding in a crack, then for it to randomly explode would not be so strange.

Ahh... I think we have a theory. I will mention it to Adrian tomorrow.

speaking as a Professional Physicist, the ice theory makes sense to me too. Physics!
