Well, I'm one friend that certainly does not think those things about you - I think it's fantastic that you feel able to post stuff like this.

I've been very disappointed by what I've seen in social media over the last eighteen hours or so. This is one of the only things I've seen that hasn't created that reaction in me. Whilst I'm Anglican rather than Catholic, so the identity of the Pope doesn't mean as much to me as would to others, I certainly hope he'll do a good job and I'm certain that the Cardinals have chosen the man they believe to be the best for it.

You are absolutely right that nobody could turn round the entire Catholic church during one term of office - change has to be gradual, and the larger the culture, the more gradual it has to be. If he can get the ball rolling, then that's a good job, well done. And if he can inspire some people to be excellent to each other, that's all I'd really ask for in a church leader.

My first though when I read the guys personal life in his profile was cool, they've elected the Bishop of Digne. I hope he continues in that vein

Excellent piece. He seems to be quite a grounded individual, and being from outside the inner circle may be of help.
