This was a delight! I felt like I (and the Barbverse) had been dropped into an book of fairy tales a la Tatterhood.

He bethought himself to try calling his sister, but alas, wherever she had been taken, there was no cell phone coverage.

Bwah!

"You're not bringing that thing home with you, are you? Mom will have a cow."

Doggie!

I like, too, how Connie doesn't think to distrust the ways the Gnobold Queen is set a bit askew to the world, because her family is too, in superficially similar ways.

Uh huh - making the protagonists part of the magic changes the slant a bit...

Shades of The Goblin Market and the Brothers Grimm, and those are good shades to be.

And then, with a nod at the three-headed dog, as it laid all of its bloody and slavering heads against her leg, "You're not bringing that thing home with you, are you? Mom will have a cow."

"Of course I am," Constance replied, for she was a girl of her word. And the three-headed dog lolled out all three of its tongues and grinned.

Hope he's housebroken.

If he's not, he soon will be. There are some things up with which Buffy will not put. *g*

Deeply cute! Loving the twisty fairy tale, and snickering at the modern touches. And I love the taming of the three-headed dog. Actually I love the three-headed dog full-stop; what a great hell-mouthy twist. though I'm sure Buffy did have a cow.

The dog was my nod to the dogs in "The Tinder-Box," which I always liked, though their master was a bit of a rotter. *g*

Hee, lovely story!

The fairy tale style in combination with cellphones and mother's weapon chest is great!
