Ardeth saw a man curiously studying the reception desk and watched him for a moment before approaching.

"Are you Doctor Jackson?" he asked.

He certainly seemed like an archaeologist, similar to one of the Americans who had accompanied O'Connell's party to Hamunaptra.

Daniel looked up when he heard some one speak. "Yes, I'm Doctor Jackson, and you must be Ardeth Bay?" He stood up from investigating the desk and arched an eyebrow as he saw Ardeth's face.

"Forgive me if this seems rude, but why do you have the word for... protector, it looks like, tattooed on your forehead?" He offered his hand for a handshake as he asked.

Ardeth cocked his head slightly. Of course the man could read heiroglyphics. So could Evelyn O'Connell, but she'd never commented.

Ardeth shook the man's hand almost tentatively, withdrawing before speaking.

"Because it is what God has given me life to do," he replied simply. "My people have always borne the sacred marks of our calling."

"He gave you life to protect?" Daniel gave the man a quizzical look, "What, or whom, are you supposed to protect?" A thought crossed Daniel's mind, and he looked a little surprised, "The soldiers of the Goa'uld known as the Jaffa, have a tattoo, or even a gold emblem if they attain the position of first prime, of the god they serve, on their forehead; I wonder if there is some connection between the practices..."

"Evelyn O'Connell," he replied. "Last time I heard from her, she had taken over as curator of the British Museum."

Daniel paused for a second, "I think I read a book by her when I was getting my degree...It was on the heiroglyphs and their translation." He absently adjusted his glasses, "I think it's one of the reasons I could decode the Stargate."

(OOC: If you want I can make it so Daniel remembered the name wrong)

"She's very good," Ardeth said. "I did not know she had written a book. Perhaps she hasn't yet."

[ooc: However you want to play it - I don't mind! :)]

"I think she had written it a few years after becoming the curator at the museum." Daniel followed after Ardeth, "Do you think the hotel will let us find the library on the first try?"

"Like a Rosetta Stone," Ardeth mused. He looked over at Jackson. "There are many people who have been here much longer than I have. Perhaps one of them will recognize the symbol."

Daniel tilted his head a little, "How long have you been here if you don't mind my asking?" Taking the book off the shelf, because after all: All work and no play.

"I do not know for certain. It is hard to keep track. A couple of months, perhaps? Perhaps less?"

He put the book back and continued down the aisle.

A thought crept back into Daniel's head, "Months? This keeps sounding like some sadistic experiment by some sort of more technologically advanced race. I mean why put basically random people in this place, and have all they want, and even from what I've heard induce hallucinations?"

"We could go and look there now," Ardeth suggested. "I have not yet been to the basement. I was not aware we had one."

Daniel tapped the spines of a book he had in his stack against his lips, "Yeah, that would probably be a good idea and if it is we can then work out a way to power it..."

"Does this library have a way to hold books or anything like that?" While he wanted to investigate the basement, doing so with a small stack of books wasn't the best way to do that.

"If you want to hold on to them, I recommend you put them in your room first. If you leave them here, the library will put them away," Ardeth told him.

"That certainly makes sense, as this place seems to move just about everything else," Daniel looked at his small pile of books. "I think I will stop by my room to drop these off and then investigate the basement"

He turned to Ardeth, "If you want you can follow me to my room on the 4th floor, or I can just meet you somewhere, that is if you are coming along?"
