Jareth often wandered through the library, though he rarely touched the books. This particular afternoon, however... well, if he'd had a concept of Christmas, it would have felt like that.

The girl couldn't have been more than fifteen at the most, and was utterly absorbed in her book. Some ridiculous fantasy, no doubt. No. He considered her a moment longer. It was something too old for her and she enjoyed it and thought that made her more grown up. He smirked a little. A ridiculous fantasy that was a little too old for her.

He walked over slowly, almost savouring the approach, and settled in the chair kitty-corner to the one she was using for a foot-rest, draping himself over it regally more than merely sitting in it, his booted feet near her right ear. It might as well have been his throne. He crossed one ankle over the opposite knee and watched her for a moment longer before commenting.

"That must be a very charming tale, indeed, to have captivated you so thoroughly."

Dawn choked on her pretzel and tossed her book in the air in surprise, thankfully catching it before it came back and hit her in the head, when it became apparent that she was no longer alone.

"I don't know if I'd call Interview With a Vampire charming," she recovered, pulling her feet off the chair, sitting up and spinning around so she could face him. "But it's good. A bit ironic though all things considering," she mused to herself.

"How long have you been sitting there?" she questioned, one eyebrow raised as she took in the apperance of the man across from her.

"I only just sat down," Jareth told her. "I haven't seen you here before, and I visit often. Would I be correct to assume that you're new here?"

Dawn nodded, finding the page she was on and dog-earring it before putting her book down in her lap. "About a week or so."

Jareth laughed. "Dear girl, a goblin cannot lead the goblins. They must be led."

"Okay then," Dawn said, coming in to her question from a different direction. "How does on sign up to lead the goblins? Cause I don't remember Goblin King being an option on career day."

"No," he said indulgently. "It's more a job for self-starters. It's simply a matter of seeing an opportunity and... seizing it."

"That's cool, I guess" Dawn said, picking out a couple of the crackers from the bowl and tossing them in her mouth. "Want some chex mix?" she offered when she realized she hadn't yet.

"And why would a young girl get into a grudge match to the death with a vampire?" he asked curiously.

"Because it's her job," Dawn said matter of factly. "She's The Vampire Slayer, so she dusts vamps and kills demons on a nightly basis. And Spike was the Slayer of Slayers, so it was only natural that they tried to kill each other."

"The sister of the Vampire Slayer," he mused. "I bet you were never bullied at school."

"Yeah, but I get kidnapped and held hostage alot," she countered. "So I guess it's a trade off."

"I'm sure I'll come up with something suitable on my own," she retorted with a cheeky grin.

Dawn just laughed lightly in response. "But until that, I should be going," she said climbing to her feet, picking up her book to take with her. "I need to check in with my sister before dinner. She get's twitchy if we don't touch bases enough, and a twitch slayer isn't good for anyone," she explained with a roll of her eyes at what she percieved to be the overprotectiveness of her sister.

"You're a bit old for playing the baby sister, aren't you?" Jareth suggested. "What will she do if you don't?" he asked mischievously.
